Dr. A.V. Neurology

Dr. Rajendra D. Badgaiyan, MD, is a psychiatrist and cognitive neuroscientist. He is Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Richmond University Medical Center, and Professor of Psychiatry at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. He received formal training in psychiatry, psychology, cognitive neuroscience, molecular imaging and neuroimaging. He was awarded the prestigious BK Anand National Research Prize in India and Solomon Award of Harvard Medical School. His research is focused on the study of neural and neurochemical mechanisms that control human brain functions. He developed the single scan dynamic molecular imaging technique (SDMIT) to detect, map, and measure neurotransmitters released acutely in the human brain during task performance. This technique is now used in laboratories all over the world. Using this technique, he studies dopaminergic control of human cognition and behavior. He is also interested in learning the nature of dysregulated dopamine neurotransmission in psychiatric and neuropsychiatric conditions. His research is funded by NIMH, NINDS, VA, and various foundations. Previously he served in the faculty of Harvard Medical School, SUNY Buffalo and University of Minnesota. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals.

Parkinson disease

Jayakumar Rajadas is the Founding Director of Biomaterials and Advanced Drug Delivery Laboratory at Stanford University. He is also an Adjunct Professor at UCSF School of Pharmacy, University of California. He is currently working on the molecular mechanism of neurodegenerative disorders involved in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. His research has also been involved in transforming nano science ideas into biomaterials and drug delivery technologies. Before moving to Stanford, he served as the Founding Chair Person of the bio-organic and neurochemistry division at one of India’s national laboratories. He is a recipient of several awards including Young Scientist award in Chemistry for the year 1996 from the Government of India. He has also won the Best Scientist award from the Tamil Nadu state Government India in the year 1999. He is co-recipient of nine SPARK transnational awards in Stanford University. He has published over 194 papers with numerous granted/disclosed patents.

Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases

Kohji Fukunaga first discovered calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) from brain. He received his PhD degrees from Kumamoto University School of Medicine in 1985. During 1988 to 1990, he worked as research fellow in Vanderbilt University (HHMI) under Professor TR Soderling. In 2002, he was appointed a Professor and Chairman in the faculty of graduate school of pharmaceutical sciences. He was Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Pharmacological Sciences (Elsevier) since 2012. He is interested in disease-modifying drug development for neurodegenerative disorders and psychiatry diseases such as autism and mental retardation.

Dr. Ben Weinstock has over 30 years of experience in the rehabilitation of patients suffering from complex medical and neurological conditions. He has presented previously at international conferences. In 2015 he wrote and published the only book about the prevention of PD. In 2017 he began to present his course, Exercise Prescription, Individualized Care for PD (EPIC-PDâ„¢) to Doctors of Physical Therapy. EPIC-PD is the only methodology that takes motor and non-motor factors into account to develop an individualized exercise and lifestyle prescription for a person with PD.

Prof. Azza A. Ali has completed her PhD specialised in Pharmacology and Toxicology from Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University, Egypt. Her postdoctoral studies included different scientific aspects especially on neurodegenerative disorders; she also developed research line of behavioural pharmacology in Egypt. She is member of many scientific societies as (AAPS) and Alzheimer's Association (ISTAART). She is also Editorial Board Member of many international Journals as Brain Disorder & Therapy, Acta Psychopathologica, EC Pharmacology and Toxicology as well as Organising Committee Member and Chairperson at many international Conferences as the International Conference on Brain Disorders & Dementia Care, Canada (2017) and International Conference on Parkinson's Disease & Movement Disorders, USA (2017). She published more than 60 papers in reputed journals, supervised and discussed more than 90 PhD and MSc thesis and actively participated by oral and posters presentations at many international conferences especially on Alzheimer's disease and Dementia as well as on Parkinson's disease as Dementia Conferences (2015, 2016), Alzheimer's Association International Conference (AAIC 2016, 2017) and Parkinson's Conference (2017). She has many appreciation certificates and certificate of best presentation award at 19th International Conference on Environmental Pollution and Pollution Control, London, UK (ICEPPC 2017). Now she is a Head of Pharmacology and Toxicology Department at Al-Azhar University, Egypt.

Raymond Chong is director of the Movement Science Lab at the Department of Physical Therapy, Augusta University, USA. He has joint appointments in the School of Graduate Studies, Vision Discovery Institute & Institute of Neuroscience. He received his PhD in Exercise & Movement Science at the University of Oregon in 1997 and is first author in over 75% of his peer-reviewed papers.

Dr KrupaTorne is among the few super specialists who have been internationally trained in the field of Paediatric Neurology. At present she is heading the department of Neurosciences at Surya Childrens multispecialty Hospital in Mumbai, India. She has completed her Fellowship in Paediatric Neurology and Epilepsy from Maharashtra University Health Sciences at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Hospital and Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College, Mumbai. Surya Pratap Singh currently working as a Professor in the department of Biochemistry in Banaras Hindu University .He has done his Post-doctoral training from 2000 to 2008 from Uinv. of Illinois at Chicago & Johns Hopkins, USA and 1995-1996 from National Institute of Neuroscience, Tokyo. Japan. Sri Pooja Ravipati is the mentor for the Face Recognition System workshop using OpenCV and Python in JNTU. She worked as Research Assistant in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2017. Prior to this, She worked as Research Intern in Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 2016. She is the Chair-person of IETE Student Forum (ISF) of JNTU chapter and organize various activities. She is the technical lead for ECENTRA a technical symposium organized by department of ECE in JNTU.

The engineering performance of Internet of Things and their applications using Image Processing in present scenario has always fascinated. She firmly believes that Image Processing and Internet of Things (IoT) are truly multi-disciplinary fields having their applications in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision and am working in this area.

Amin Hajamohideen is currently pursing Post Grad Medical Degree at Monash University. Previously, he worked as a Research Officer at Nick Barker’s lab at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) in Singapore. The lab focuses their research on epithelial stem cell. Prior to this, He undertook an Honour project at Monash University. His research project was on myocardial perfusion in a Hypertensive setting.

Having worked at an epithelial stem cell lab for almost 2 years, it has piqued his scientific curiosity in stem cell regeneration and in cancer setting.

Dr. R. Yuvaraj is a postdoctoral research fellow with School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He has done B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Anna University, M.E. in Bio-Medical Engineering (Gold Medalist) from the same university and Ph. D in Bio-Medical Electronic Engineering at the School of Mechatronic Engineering, University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Malaysia, in April 2015. Prior to joining NTU, he was a postdoctoral research scholar at the Neural Systems Lab, Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Kentucky, Lexington, USA. His research interests are primarily in the field of EEG signal processing that includes affective computing, brain machine interface and cognitive neuroscience. He has received several innovative research awards (2), medals (4) and certificates on excellent publications and research. He has published several papers in refereed international SCI-IF (Science Citation Index - Impact Factor) journals (15), as well as IEEE international conference (2).

Yi-Wei Cheng is currently a senior student in the department of Healthcare Administration and Medical Informatics from Kaohsiung Medical University. Being an undergraduate, He used to do research work on Robotics, Internet of Things, Biomedical Signal Processing, Machine Learning, and Natural Language processing. He has built a 6-dof mini Stewart platform and controlled its movement by inverse kinematics with Arduino Uno. He also use Raspberry pi to build a long-distance autonomous UGV, equipped with real-time surveillance function and remote controlled by Android app. He was an intern at Taichung Veterans General Hospital Computer & Communications Center last year and conducted a project of applying Optical Character Recognition technique on medical services Robot. Yi-Wei Cheng developed an Android App on Zenbo(an ASUS robot), which can recognize patients’ personal data by their personal health insurance card, and then make an appointment on-line or other medical services. Later, the results were submitted to the "2017 TANET" conference, which has been accepted and published. Recently, with the advice of his advisor, he published another paper, " Gesture Recognition of EMG signals using machine learning algorithm", using SVM on EMG gesture analysis, and submitted to the National Calculator Conference.

Guy H Fontaine has made 17 original contributions in the design and the use of the first cardiac pace makers in the early 60s. He has serendipitously identified ARVD during his contributions to antiarrhythmic surgery in the early 70s. He has developed the technique of Fulguration to replace surgery in the early 80s (technique used during 30 years in Paris). He has been one of the 216 individuals who have made a significant contribution to the study of cardiovascular disease since the 14th century, one of the 500 greatest geniuses of the 21th Century (USA Books), one of the 100 Life Time Achievement (UK Book). He has more than 900 publications including 201 chapters in text books. He is the reviewer of 26 scientific journals both in basic and clinical science. He served as a member of the Editorial Board of Circulation for 5 years, after reviewing articles for this journal during decades. He has given 11 master lectures of 90 minutes each in inland China in 2014. He has recently developed new techniques of hypothermia for brain protection in OHCA and Stroke. This technique has been fortuitously used after resuscitation of his wife at home in June 2011 with absolutely no neurologic deficit despite 6 minutes of no flow. He has also invented a high-tech device which can be considered the ultimate in palliative care by preventing unexpectedly awaking after ordinary sleep. Junxia Xie is Taishan scholar distinguished professor. She is currently the director of Shandong Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center for Neurodegenerative Disorders. She is also the vice president of Qingdao University, the vice president of Chinese Association of Physiological Sciences as well as Chinese Neuroscience Society. Her research mainly focuses on the pathogenesis and therapeutic strategies for neurodegenerative diseases, especially the role of iron imbalance and its contributions to nigral dopaminergic neurons degeneration in Parkinson’s disease.
